Technical School 2018

September 2018

45 days of training have just finished (see video).
The courses in cookery, baking, housekeeping and agriculture were attended by 49 trainees, 80% of whom were women. Since most of the women run hotels, lodges and tea shops in the Khumbu region, the main purpose of the training was to increase employment, to improve life quality and to empower the local youth in this rural area.
The tourist season has just started in Lukla. The trainees are really excited about serving their guests. The growing tourism market in the region has created a big demand for skilled employees. Because many cooks and bakers come from the city, the local villagers have to pay high wages for their work. Hence, from now on, hotels should be able to reduce their operating costs by employing local staff.
